Did you know that there is a Quidditch Cup? And a Quidditch Federation?
Quidditch Cup is USQ’s premier event of the season. Featuring 60 teams from across the league, this is the pinnacle of the competitive season and the largest spectator event of the year. Teams qualify through regionals and have the opportunity to compete at the Quidditch Cup to be crowned the National Champions.
US Quidditch is the national governing body for the sport of quidditch. USQ advances the sport by organizing events and programs that build community and empower all genders to compete together.Inspired by the Harry Potter novels and founded in 2010, they serve over 4,000 athletes on almost 200 teams nationwide and provide a range of services, from hosting nine major tournaments and supervising regular season competition, to training and certifying referees, snitches, and tournament directors, offering grants, and working to expand the sport into younger age groups through outreach programs at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. US Quidditch is a 501(c)3 nonprofit. On April 8 and 9, 2017, the top 60 teams in US Quidditch will converge on Kissimmee, Florida for two days of intense competition to crown the league champion. Each USQ region hosted a regional championship this season in order for teams to compete for the opportunity to participate in USQC10. These championships began in late October and concluded in early March .
US Quidditch released a promotional video for the upcoming tournament, which offers a glimpse at what Muggle Quidditch entails.
