Newt is still alive and was Dumbledore’s spy. Fantastic Beasts Book German edition has been leaked

The new edition of Newt Scamander’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be released next week - March 14th. In addition to new artwork, this new book will feature six new magical creatures, illustrations by artist Tomislav Tomic and a brand new foreword introduction from Magizoologist Newt Scamander.

If you, like me, can’t wait another week, the German Amazon site offers a preview of the book that include the full introduction. (reddit user /u/hec07. revealed). Amazon will probably remove this soon, but here is the new information that I learned from it.

  1. The new book still features J.K. Rowling’s original artwork.

  2. The new intro - written by Newt Scamander - replaces Dumbledore’s intro from the 2001 edition.

  3. Newt is still alive at the time of writing, which is implied to be midway through the release of the film series.

  4. Newt says that Dumbledore was pleased with the success of the 2001 Muggle release (Since he died in 1997, I believe that he was referring to Dumbledore’s portrait)

  5. The fan theory that Newt was Dumbledore’s spy is a legitimate theory, to the point that some people in-universe accept it. Newt makes a not-too-convincing attempt to deny this.

  6. The six newly added creatures are all America's natives. There is an in-universe explanation given for their absence of Swooping Evil and the Marmite from the previous edition.

  7. Grindelwald caused “two decades” of terror to the Wizarding World. Seeing as he must finish this by 1945, he’ll likely break out of prison soon.

  8. Rita Skeeter published a biography of Newt (after her 2014 book about Dumbledore’s Army). The German edition calls it “Man or Monster?: The TRUTH about Newt Scamander“ (free translation)

  9. Picquery passed laws protecting magical creatures in 1927. (One year after Newt left.)

  10. Newt was the first person to capture Grindelwald.

The new edition of the book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by J.K. Rowling will will “bring the original classic up to date with new content that reflects the exciting developments in her Wizarding World and will be released on March 14, 2017, 16 years after its initial release. The Hogwarts textbook is referenced several times in the Harry Potter series, and became its own book in 2001. Written by a fictitious wizard named Newt Scamander, the book explores magical creatures in Rowling's wizarding world. Proceeds from the book will go to the U.K. organization Comic Relief, which raises funds and distributes them to charitable projects and nonprofits around the world.
